Children learn things faster than adults. A growing kid is more likely to learn many languages than an adult. So as parents, we must help our kids develop healthy habits that will always stay with them.
Here are some tips that will imprint some good habits in your child’s brain, shaping a good personality, for their future:
Values:
Children learn values from parents. Be everything you want them to be. Be the role model that they will admire growing up.
Time:
Decide a week of the day, where the entire family spends time doing interesting things together. Activities can be going swimming, hiking or even cooking together. Other than watching TV with the family, kids should learn to openly communicate with parents and siblings and remember the family as one unit. Good values like protecting each other and being there for each other can be impressed during this time.
Rewards:
Knowing the rewards and punishments is really important. All parents take up the reward-punishment method for letting the kids know of their good and bad actions. But rewards should not be a bribe and punishments should not be like a prison. Choose rewards that do more good than harm. For example, extended TV time or new smartphone is not a good reward.
Technology:
Remember to keep a curfew on the technology. The world outside screens is the real one. Make sure that your kids understand the need for books and board games, arts and creativity, hobby and pastime.
Routine:
Help your child to create a routine that he can follow. Make sure you follow yours too. Create a calendar. Give your child an exciting schedule that fits everything; their coaching/tuitions, study/homework, hobby, pastime, exercise time, meals and rest.
Question:
Develop quick questioning and reasoning skills in your child. Encourage questions and give honest and smart answers. For example, if they ask where the babies come from, then do not answer that angel send babies from heaven. Do not dumb your kid down. This exercise will slowly increase their conflict resolution skills and EQ.
Goals:
Always keep achievable goals in front of them. From making them do simple house chores to their academics and extra- curriculum. This will make them disciplined and they will not procrastinate in the future.
Study buddy:
Just like there are playdates, there can be study dates. Studying with someone on a regular basis creates a healthy competition spirit. And also, there will be little scope for boredom then.
Do not Panic:
When your child is not able to finish the task by the deadline, do not panic around them. Instead of yelling or stressing them out, make a positive environment. With a little help, they might just do better. And they will learn how to always handle situations by keeping calm, too.
Health:
Last but not least: make sure your kid is healthy. Health as in both physical and mental health. Having a balanced diet, proper exercise and rest is the success-key for a growing mind and body.
